Title:
no option to open an existing encrypted disk

Status in “grub-installer” package in Ubuntu:
  New
Status in “partman-crypto” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: parted

Attempting to install on an alternate root LV on the encrypted disk,
there is no way I could find to get the partitioner to open the
existing luks volume and vgscan/activate it.

Manually doing the luksOpen, vgscan, vgchange -a y results in an
installable system where grub-installer fails to find the device to
finish the install to, presumably because it never got told that we
were using an encrypted disk. I do not recall having these issues in
  karmic.
