My DVDRW laptop drive Matshita DVD-RAM UJ-840S won't write or blank Verbatim CDRW 32x Disks. Burning applications report an error:

The problem only exists when I use native burning apps like Brasero,
K3B or cdrecord on all Ubuntu versions including Faisty. NeroLinux has
no problem with the disk and everything works fine. I have also
learned from a colleague which owns the same drive that the problem
does not occur on Gutsy Gibbon, and he is able to burn such disks with
Brasero etc.
