This bug is a duplicate of bug 453476. This was fixed in the maverick
version of casper as follows:

  * Conflict with live-initramfs, as they overlap and people can pick one or
    the other (LP: #453476).

** This bug has been marked a duplicate of bug 453476
package live-initramfs (not installed) failed to install/upgrade: trying to overwrite '/usr/share/initramfs-tools/conf.d/compcache', which is also in package casper 0:1.204

Title:
Casper fails to install on 10.04.3

Status in “casper” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
Not sure whether this is casper or rather dpkg/apt. Either way, here
  is what happens.

I installed lupin-casper and it failed to install casper on which it
depends. The failure manifests as follows:

  ---------------
  [2] oliver at askr:~$ apt-get upgrade
  Reading package lists... Done
  Building dependency tree
  Reading state information... Done
You might want to run `apt-get -f install' to correct these.
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
lupin-casper: Depends: casper (>= 0.98) but it is not installed
E: Unmet dependencies. Try using -f.
  ---------------

Now when I try to force a resolution of the problem, I get this:

  ---------------
  [2] oliver at askr:~$ apt-get -f install
  Reading package lists... Done
  Building dependency tree
  Reading state information... Done
  Correcting dependencies... Done
The following extra packages will be installed:
    casper
The following NEW packages will be installed:
    casper
0 upgraded, 1 newly installed, 0 to remove and 2 not upgraded.
7 not fully installed or removed.
Need to get 0B/78.2kB of archives.
After this operation, 410kB of additional disk space will be used.
Do you want to continue [Y/n]?
(Reading database ... 122776 files and directories currently installed.)
  Unpacking casper (from .../casper_1.236.3_amd64.deb) ...
  dpkg: error processing /var/cache/apt/archives/casper_1.236.3_amd64.deb (--unpack):
trying to overwrite '/usr/share/initramfs-tools/conf.d/compcache', which is also in package live-initramfs 0:1.173.1-1
  Errors were encountered while processing:

Total disk space freed by localepurge: 0 KiB

  E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)
  ---------------

Let me know what other information may be needed, I'll try to collect
  it.
