My problem is looking like this one.
After dist-upgrade from 11.04 to 11.10, I have a red icon in the unity panel sayng I have broken packages. Poping update-manager to look for update pops a partial-upgrade window. After staring it, it stops then say there is no partial upgrade available.
apt-get install -f shows no broken packages
apt-get update && apt-get upgrade always successful, only update-manager fails. The red icon remains.

In my apt.log, I have the same message than Jordan :"ERROR:root:NvidiaDetection returned a error: __init__() got an unexpected keyword argument 'datadir'
MarkUpgrade() called on a non-upgrable pkg: 'brasero'
ERROR:root:Upgrading 'brasero' failed"
