Title:
Feature request: Identify disk devices as best as possible
Status in “usb-creator” package in Ubuntu:
Confirmed
Bug description:
Binary package hint: usb-creator
usb-creator should attempt to identify the devices as best as
possible. Nautilus uses generic disk icons which usb-creator should
use as well. Displaying the current volume label (if there is one,
even if unmounted) would be helpful and increase safety and
intuitiveness of the project. Formatting needs to be intuitive and
safe. No confirmation is bad, but it not the root of the issue (See
Bug #443330 for the confirmation/warning request). We need to assist
the user in understanding which device they are formatting. USB
Creator could wipe the wrong drive as many of us have experienced (See
Bug #443330).
We need to identify the:
-DEVICE NAME(Same as lsusb name)
-An icon of a USB Key, USB Drive, SD Card or CF Card (see image attached)
-Current volume label (is this possible when unmounted)
-Device size
-Current mount point (if mounted)
Note: If there is a warning (yellow exclamation mark symbol) it should
be shown beside the icon of the device, not replace it.
