[Bug 873538] [NEW] installation of all apps attempted show an error and are unsuccessful

Public bug reported:

I tried to install as many as 5 different applications found in the
software-center and each one seemed to download, but resulted in error
when installing. I believe the message said "unable to add/remove
packages," but I am not 100% sure. This is my first experience with
Ubuntu so I may have done something to cause this without knowing. Thank
you for your time and attention.
