The on/off button changed colour to red today to indicate a system
restart was nessary. It's much clearer now - however what was strange
was that I did the update in the morning and the button only changed
several hours later, at the very moment I launched the Ubuntu Software
center. I don't know if it's normal behaviour or not.

Title:
On/off button no longer goes red to indicate that a restart is
necessary
Status in “update-manager” package in Ubuntu:
New
Bug description:
I have noticed that after an update, if it is necessary to restart the
computer the on/off button no longer changes colour. This means that
the user has nothing to indicate that this is necessary until (s)he
switches off the computer (when the message appears in the system
menu). This could lead to people running outdated and maybe insecure
kernels for long periods of times, which is why I have signaled this
as a possible security issue.
