[Bug 804588] Re: Oneiric network browse mount failed to get share list

Problem still exists on Beta 2.

Tried tower, notebook, netbook.

All three run "browse network" fine "out of the box" on Narwhal,
Meerkat, Lynx LTS, ...

All three "browse network" fails after spinning and spinning several
minutes. smb.conf has this line commented out:

: name resolve order = hoast lmhosts wins bcast

Removing comment no help. My conclusion: Ocelot never even gets to
bcast or even tries it.

Change Oneiric Ocelot to:
name resolve order = bcast

works fine.

I don't think "out of the box" Ocelot is going to work for people like
me with netbook, tower, notebook on a local network.

Not helpful for expanding the use of Ubuntu to more people.

My opinion, anyway.

Why was the default for "browse networks" changed on Ocelot? It was
working fine on Narwhal, Meerkat, Lynx LTS apparently defaulting to
"bcast".

Thanks, Jerry

Title:
Oneiric network browse mount failed to get share list

Status in “util-linux” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
1 July updated Oneiric Ocelot network browse can detect other pc's on
the net but "mount failed to obtain share list from server". Cannot
see any files on the other pc's on the net.

Narwhal, Meerkat, Lucid, ... mount with no problem between same pc's.
(multi booted) and share files successfully. For that matter, Narwhal
can see files on Oneiric and copy them O.K.
