Hi Matthias, and thank you for your report. We have seen this error before, and the there is a workaround that should take care of it. Please type the following into a terminal:
     
  killall software-center

Alternatively, a reboot should also clear the problem. If either of
these does not fix it, please report back here.

  software-center in oneiric starts, but only a gray window is visible

Status in “software-center” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  I use software-center 5.0 in oneiric amd64 from today. When I started
  the software-center, it only showed a gray window without any content.
  I restarted it multiple times but nothing changed. I attached a
  screenshot to the bug report.

  Starting it on the CLI does not show any errors:

  % software-center
  2011-10-05 19:30:58,883 - softwarecenter.ui.gtk3.em - INFO - EM's: 16 14 19

  Is there any kind of debug mode to track down the issue?
