  update-manager cannot apply the update for GNOME desktop icon theme (symbolic icons) 3.2.0-0ubuntu1:
  The package system is broken

  Check if you are using third party repositories. If so disable them, since they are a common source of problems.
  Furthermore run the following command in a Terminal: apt-get install -f

  The following packages have unmet dependencies:

  gnome-icon-theme-symbolic:

  Press the Close button and package-manager crashes - this is
  repeatable.

  Started Ubuntu Software Center which detected and repaired the
  breakage. After that remaining updates could be applied.
