[Bug 897997] [NEW] Ubuntu 11.04 Installer crashes with upgrade option

Public bug reported:

My system recently descended into just hanging at the purple splash
screen. I tried to recover my files by booting with an image from usb,
and attempted to "upgrade from 11.04 to 11.04" in order to try to save
my files. Halfway through installing, the installer crashes.
