Title:
failure to install bootlegger at initial (non-partitioned)
  installation of 11.10

Status in “grub-installer” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Fully dedicated, new, empty linux machine. Has 5TB distributed in 4
striped data drives on raid card and 1 operational drive. Tried to
install Ubuntu 11.10 (new release today) on the operation drive (1TB).
Installation went successfully until it hit an error where it could
not install bootlegger. I tried to then proceed without bootlegger to
install manually later, but the installation had already crashed at
this point. this is AMD64 version (Opteron G34 Server Board). We do no
intend to use as a server (just a powerful desktop) so I used the
  standard desktop install CD.
