It is tricky, and the changelog excerpt Jim provided shows when, and
how, it will hit (not a really common situation). Since coreutils 8.13
is being provided (right now) on Precise, I am marking this bug fix
released.

  I was searching big directories to make more free space on my /home.
  The command : 
              du -hs ~/* | sort
  worked.

  But this one has caused this bug :
             du -hs ~/.*  | sort
