Sorry, additional to the above the preferred method is with

sudo do-release-upgrade -d

To upgrade to a new release. I get a man page for this also, note I'm
running 11.10 though.

  I tried to remember how to upgrade out of LTS cycle (From Lucid to Maveric) and looked:
  man do-release-upgrade
  No info about config file. See more: update-manager
  (Or maybe there could be commandline switch for do that.)

  man update-manager
  No info about config file.
