After a couple more of the same crash messages, I used a GParted disk
(iso from CNET) and switched FAT32 to ext4 and pre-set partitions used
fror Linux Mint primary and logical.

After that formatting and partitioning first the installation ran as expected without any additional problems.

Bug description:
  Installing Linux Mint 11 Gnome and after selecting language the
  following Installer crashed message displayed with request to file a
  new bug.

  File"/usr/lib/ubiquity/ubiquity/gtkwidgets.py", line 398, in do_set_property
  self.label.set_text(value)
  TypeError: Gtk.Label.set_text() argument 1 must be string. not None

  Was attempting install on Maxtor HD Formatted Fat32 without anything on it.
