  Update Manager not working

Status in “update-manager” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  I am trying to update my system from 8.10 to 10,04. When I click on
  the Update button, it checks the packages up to 43 of 66 the stops
  with this error box

  The repository may no longer be available or could not be contacted
  because of network problems. If available an older version of the
  failed index will be used. Otherwise the repository will be ignored.
  Check your network connection and ensure the repository address in the
  preferences is correct.

  Extracting the upgrade failed. There may be a problem with the network
  or with the server.

  If there is a problem with the Ubuntu networks or servers, where do I find that out and when will it be available? If there is some other problem, then how do I upgrade to 10.04 LTS?
