You have been subscribed to a public bug:

When attempting to load the 11.10 Live-CD I cannot get ubuntu to boot
into a graphical interface. It gets to a black screen, sometimes
flickers, and then stops. I have tried booting the Live-CD with the
following kernel startup parameters:

nomodeset
radeon.modeset=0
radeon.modeset=1
radeon.modeset=1 acpi=off
radeon.modeset=0 vmalloc=256M
xforcevesa

All have the same result. Black screen. I can use <Alt>+<F2> to get to
the cli. So it seems to load, I just cant get the graphical interface
to load.

The PC is an HP pavilion with an amd athlon 645 x 4, integrated radeon HD4200 Graphics, wifi (rt5390) and 6 GB ram.
I currently use Ubuntu 10.04 on it. I had to build the wifi drivers from source code, but they seem to work fine. The PC will boot a 8.04 live-cd successfully as well as the 10.04.3 live-cd too. I did most of my troubleshooting w/help form the forums (note that the help was associated with 11.04, I've gone thru the same exercises with 11.10) see the following thread for the steps I've taken so far:

I imagine there is other information needed, just let me know what/how to acquire it so that I can provide it.
Thanks
