There are multiple errors having to do with /boot being a read only file
system:

Setting up friendly-recovery (0.2.18) ...^M
/usr/sbin/grub-mkconfig: 255: cannot create /boot/grub/grub.cfg.new: Read-only file system^M
dpkg: error processing friendly-recovery (--configure):^M
 subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 2^M
