[Bug 889612] [NEW] everytime i am trying to get updates using"sudo apt-get update" command i get the following error

E: The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened.

i tried the following command to remove also "sudo rm /var/lib/apt/lists/in.archive.ubuntu.com_ubuntu_dists_natty_restricted_i18n_Translation-en"
and then "sudo apt-get update" but again the same error comes.

i am not able to get any update or software.
please help.
