Title:
thinkpad sleep suspend fn buttons do not work without g-p-m

Status in “acpi-support” package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: acpi

xUbuntu daily-live 3-2 used as install media, updated to 3-3.
  Thinkpad R50

When I attempt to use the FN+F4 (Suspend to RAM) or FN+F12 (Hibernate)
buttons on my thinkpad, the device does not suspend to RAM or disk. In
/var/log/acpid I can see the button events & scripts being called in
/etc/acpi/, but nothing happens. If I install & start gnome-power-
manager, I can use the suspend to ram/disk keys successfully. Note
that the machine can successfully suspend to ram/disk by using the
  XFCE Quit ~> Suspend/Hibernate function without gnome-power-manager.
