[Bug 885114] [NEW] Aptitude fails to report correct package status on search

Public bug reported:

Since upgrading to Ubuntu 11.10 «aptitude search» reports wrong and inconsistent package states.
The search operation shows packages as not installed, when they are. It also shows different state of one and the same package, depending on the search term.
When using «aptitude show» the package states are shown correctly to the best of my knowledge, but I can not be certain any more.

This bug wreaks havoc with any scripts that rely on mass-processing
packages using statuses from «aptitude search»

Ubuntu 11.10
Aptitude 0.6.4-1ubuntu2

** Affects: aptitude (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
