The error in your logfile is:

This is not a bug in Ubuntu, but a local configuration error.  You have
installed a version of Ubuntu that includes grub2 as the bootloader, and
removed it from your system in favor of grub1, which has not been
configured.  You should fix this by running:

  sudo apt-get install grub-pc

The rest of your message appears to describe issues completely unrelated
to the upgrade failure you were reporting.  I would recommend you
consult the Ubuntu forums or a related support forum for further
assistance.
