  Update-Manager could not initialize package info...

Status in “update-manager” package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: apport

  I'm getting this error message in Update-Manager:

  "Could not initialize the package information

  An unresolvable problem occurred while initializing the package
  information.

  Please report this bug against the 'update-manager' package and
  include the following error message:

  'E:Type '^X' is not known on line 57 in source list
  /etc/apt/sources.list, E:The list of sources could not be read.'"

  Movie Player and VLC are not working since this; they just shut down.
  I also got this error message when I used Run Application:

  Could not open location 'file:///home/deb/ubuntu-
  bug%20%0A'E:Type%20'%5EX'%20is%20not%20known%20on%20line%2057%20in%20source%20list%20/etc/apt/sources.list%20
  %3Cupdate-manager%3E%3E'

  Error stating file '/home/deb/ubuntu-bug
