Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.
/usr/bin/python is a symbolic link, could you check what it is pointing
to?
ls -la /usr/bin/python
if it's not python 2.7, you can manually link it to the correct version:
sudo rm /usr/bin/python
sudo ln -s /usr/bin/python2.7 /usr/bin/python
I'd appreciate if you could try my suggestions, and then reply here to
let me know whether this helped solve the problem.
