This bug was fixed in the package software-center - 4.1.4

---------------
software-center (4.1.4) oneiric; urgency=low

  [ Michael Vogt ]
  * utils/update-software-center-agent:
    - check for SOFTWARE_CENTER_NO_SC_AGENT in the environment
      and if found, do not run the update-software-center-agent
      command
  * apt-xapian-index-plugin/software-center.py:
    - fix incorrect enums import

  [ Gary Lasker ]
  * merged lp:~evfool/software-center/search-suggestions,
    really nice enhancements to the search suggestions
    feature, many thanks Robert Roth! (LP: #681476)

Title:
  Better feedback for searches without any results

Status in “software-center” package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: software-center

  On first-use the Software Centre may offer some Recommendations. If
  the user follows this and installs (or even views) one of the
  Recommendations, and then searches in the top-right-hand box then the
  user will only see matching results from within Recommendations (zero
  results).

  Ideally the interface would provide results from within the full-set
  if there are no matches within the subset; or otherwise inform the
  user that they are stuck in a sub-category and are unlikely to be
  getting the results expected or intended.
