Hi,

Same here. Computer freezes with blinking '-' or .png background, with
or without --no-apm.

Looks like it's been here for a while (2008) :
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub/+bug/220543

Since then, we keep having lots of computers and monitors up at night
for nothing. Please qualify this bug as important / critical. At least
for planet earth...

F. NASS

PS : Hardware is HP Compaq 7900 / 8000 / 8100 Elite. Same with intel
DQ965GF.

Title:
Grub hangs forever on halt command

Status in “grub2” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: grub2

Running the command "halt" on a grub2 console causes the PC to hang, not to shut down. Running "halt --no-apm" is the same.
The only way to resolve that hang is to power it off directly using the power button.

Rebooting from the grub2 console (issuing the "reboot" command) does
  work, though.
