Title:
Unable to upgrade from 10.04 to 10.10 due to kubuntu-desktop

Status in “update-manager” package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
I followed instructions on how to set the upgrade prompt value to
"normal" so I could use kpackage to upgrade from 10.04 to 10.10 --
planning on going to 11.04 when it is out. However, when I run
kpackage to perform the upgrade it gives me the following error:

  ---
An unresolvable problem occurred while calculating the
upgrade: Can not mark 'kubuntu-desktop' for upgrade
This can be caused by; * Upgrading to a pre-release
version of Ubuntu * Running the current pre-release
version of Ubuntu * Unofficial software packages not
provided by Ubuntu If non of this applies, the please
report this bug against the 'update-manager' package
and include the files in /var/log/dist-upgrade in the bug
  report.
  ---

My apologies for the formatting. I wanted to get it exact as I
believe that too is an issue.

Yes, I have enabled other repositories. Specifically KDE backports
  and the partner repository.

If this is not a bug... what is the best workaround? I hope there is
a "forward" path as apposed to a complete reinstall.
