Title:
  package nvidia-current 270.30-0ubuntu3 failed to install/upgrade:
  subprocess dpkg-deb --fsys-tarfile returned error exit status 2

Status in “update-manager” package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: update-manager

  update-manager downloaded nvidia current, but failed to install, possibly due to kernel having just been updated but system not yet restarted.
  After restart, update-manager failed to install, saying 'data error' on nvidia-current deb.
  Both apt-get and update-manager failed to offer a solution.
  I manually deleted the downloaded package from /var/apt/cache/ and installation proceeded fine from apt-get.

  sudo apt-get install nvidia-current
