Title:
grub not installed correctly in mbr from 10.10
Status in “grub2” package in Ubuntu:
Expired
Bug description:
I had Ubuntu 8.04 installed. I downloaded CD image for 10.10 and proceeded to install it. Everything looked to be fine until I restarted the system. Grub failed. I received a messages:
Grub loading stage 1.5
Grub loading, please wait
Error 17
After searching, I found information that said that the message "Grub
loading stage 1.5" is from the "old" Grub not Grub 2 that is part of
Ubuntu 10.10. I booted the Live CD, mounted my boot partition, and ran
grub-install to install the parition and the /dev/sda MBR. This
worked. Ubuntu now boot fine.
From this it seems that Ubuntu did not write over the MBR from the old
Grub.
