Do you happen to know what Debian package version this was fixed in so
we can mark the Ubuntu bug task Fix Released when we have that package
version? Thanks in advance.

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: imagemagick

The -append option for convert can append images top to bottom or left
to right. To do the latter you need to use append with a + in front
of it so +append. While I can understand the necessity of keeping the
manual brief I believe that "-append append an image
sequence" is far too brief. Either modifying -append to read "append
an image sequence top to bottom" or doing that and adding in +append
would make this argument much clearer.
