>From the error message in the title, this looks like a hardware issue. Could you please open a terminal and run the following command:
$ apt-get clean
$ apt-get update

and proceed with the installation that failed.

If it still fails please attach the files /var/log/kern.log , /var/log/syslog and the output of the terminal.
