This is an appropriate change to make to the default path as set in
/etc/environment by the libpam-modules postinst. I think this is an
issue that's easy to fix and suitable for newcomers to Ubuntu
development. If you need any help with fixing it, talk to me about it.

A proper solution should ensure /usr/local/games is safely added to the
path both for new systems and for upgrades.

Title:
  Inclusion of /usr/local/games in PATH

Status in “pam” package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
Would be nice to have /usr/local/games included in the default PATH
variable, so games that come in binary archives can be simply placed
there and run without having to make links. /usr/games is for ubuntu
installed games so why not add /usr/local/games!

  Games include: Warsow, FretsOnFire, etc.
