That resolved my issue.  I have a lot of updates, but they are running
now.  I am not sure what happen or if I did something wrong, but I will
close this issue.

  Could not initialize the package information

  An unresolvable problem occurred while initializing the package information.
  Ubuntu 11.04 - the Natty Narwhal - released in April 2011
  Updating from System/Administration/Update Manager
  I have not been able to update my Dell Mini for a few months
  I expected to get my updates, but I repeatedly get the following error

  
  Please report this bug against the 'update-manager' package and include the following error message:

  'E:Encountered a section with no Package: header, E:Problem with
  MergeList /var/lib/apt/lists/us.archive.ubuntu
  .com_ubuntu_dists_natty_main_i18n_Translation-en, E:The package lists
  or status file could not be parsed or opened.'
