Title:
  ubiquity hogs HDD for many minutes without any progress bar UI (for
  users with NTFS partitions)

Status in “ubiquity” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: ubiquity

  1. boot lucid daily live CD from today
  2. run Ubiquity from the booted live CD
  3. continue to the "select keyboard layout" dialog, where you select something and click FORWARD

  Expected:
  uniquity should advance to the next step of the installation.

  Actual:
  nothing happens except my harddisk starts to work heavily. When I open a terminal in parallel and install "iotop" I can see that ubiquity is running "ntfsresize -i -f" to get some info on my partitions. However, this commands makes many many minutes to finish on my box so a progress bar is needed.

  The box has two 10K RPM SATA disks, 8GB RAM and an intel quad core Q9500 2.8GHz. Partitions looks like this:
  $ sudo fdisk -l

  Disk /dev/sda: 300.1 GB, 300069052416 bytes
  255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 36481 cylinders
  Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes
  Sector size (logical / optimal IO): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
  Disk identifier: 0x0008ea88

     Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
  /dev/sda1   *           1        3081    24748101   83  Linux
  /dev/sda2            3221       34998   255256785   83  Linux
  /dev/sda3           34999       36481    11912197+   5  Extended
  /dev/sda4            3082        3220     1116517+  82  Linux swap / Solaris
  /dev/sda5           34999       36481    11912166   82  Linux swap / Solaris

  Partition table entries are not in disk order
