Ok, I think bzr was having trouble with parsing the watch file.
$ cat debian/watch
Version=3
http://miniupnp.free.fr/files/download.php\?file=libnatpmp-(\d.*).tar.gz
$ bzr merge-upstream
Using distribution oneiric
Using version string 20110715.
Using uscan to look for the upstream tarball.
libnatpmp: Version (20110715) available on remote site:
http://miniupnp.free.fr/files/download.php?file=libnatpmp-20110715.tar.gz
(local version is 20110715)
libnatpmp: Successfully downloaded updated package download.php
bzr: ERROR: exceptions.TypeError: 'NoneType' object is not iterable
** Also affects: bzr
