  Disk /dev/sdc: 250.1 GB, 250059350016 bytes
  /dev/sdc1               1        2432    19535008+  83  Linux           ### new /
  Disk /dev/sdd: 120.0 GB, 120034123776 bytes
  /dev/sdd1   *           1        1306    10490413+  83  Linux           #### old / 
  /dev/sdd2            6529       14593    64782112+  8e  Linux LVM   ### contains /home
  /dev/sdd3            1307        2765    11719417+  82  Linux swap / Solaris

  Steps:
  1) Booted from Ubuntu 10.10 amd64 USB startup disk.
  2) Used apt-get to install lvm2 package
  3) Used Disk Utility to remove lvm lv, pv, vg from /dev/sdc and created /dev/sdc1 as reported above
  4) Started Install from desktop icon
  5) Proceeded with manual partitioning, then user accounts etc...
  6) Left it doing it's thing for about an hour
  7) came back to an error dialogue "Install crashed" and instructions to file this bug.
