Problem solved. It was happening because I had checked the option to encrypt the home folder.
Once I unchecked it, it installed with no problems.

Title:
installer crashes upon creating a new user
Status in “ubiquity” package in Ubuntu:
New
Bug description:
When installing Ping-Eee on a Lenovo ThinkPad X61, the installer
crashes upon creating a new user. A message pops up saying to report
it here, so this is what I did. It is a fresh installation that will
take up the whole drive.
The message also suggests to attach the files /var/log/syslog and
var/log/partman: but I can only attach one file with the bug, so I
chose the first one.
I am not technically orientated, so please keep simple any inquiries
about it.
