Thank you for reporting this bug to Ubuntu. 8.04 reached EOL on May 12, 2011.
Please see this document for currently supported Ubuntu releases:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases

I've tried recreating this bug with 11.04 (Natty) and was unable to,
given the information you've provided. I have also searched for "Mark"
in the source-code of update-notifier, and have not found anything
related. Please either a) upgrade and test or b) increase the verbosity
of the steps to recreate it so we can try again.

Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

Title:
confusing use of the word "Mark" in UI

Status in “update-notifier” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: update-manager

When I right click the update-manager icon and click "Install all
updates", I get a window entitled "Mark additional required changes",
and a button which has the "Enter" icon and is called "Mark".

I'm all for using the word "Mark" in Ubuntu as much as possible, but
here it is confusing, the user doesn't want to mark things, they just
  want to update their computer.

It would be simpler if the window was entitled "Update your computer"
and the button was called "Update".
