Hello, I have exactly the same problem as in comment #24 - in short,
cannot mount any cd/dvd. System always sends "DBus error
org.gtk.Private.RemoteVolumeMonitor.Failed: An operation is already
pending." On the other hand, all SD cards or flash disks works. The DVD
mechanic that doesn't work ,is internal on notebook HP 4520s. Cannot
tell you the details now, when I run lshw it gets stuck on "scanning
scsi".

I run on 10.10 x86-64, currently using kernel 2.6.38-02063808

Funny enough, when I try kernel 2.6.39 or 3.0, the problem is gone (just
don't stick with them because of ATI drivers and some issues with wi-
fi).

Title:
usb connected cd/dvd drive not showing up in Nautilus despite being in
  dmesg

Status in “udev” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: udev

The drive is functional in Lucid but in Maverick it is detected by the
kernel, but not made available to userspace. Advice on IRC indicates
that this is likely a udev bug.
