Yes still having this problem
If I try just with the cli doing and apt-get it gets to downloading about 15% of the package then the whole system locks up. Only way back is a hard reboot

Title:
Installing update for google-chrome-beta powers off my laptop

Status in “update-manager” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
I have installed google-chrome-beta on my machine and registered the google update page as a provider. When the update manager runs it shows an update for the chrome beta package. Then and only when I select to install that package, it gets a little bit through downloading the files and then my laptop just powers off. The laptop has generally very good power, it's running from mains while this happens.
