Background: attempting to install 11.04 from usbDrive on new Toshiba
L755 -S5244. Mid load I was prompted to install updates and stupidly
said yes.  The updates failed but the new install continued apparently
ok until it locked-up in the final stages.  I killed the install but it
acted as if it had finished successfully, restarted and seemed to ok
until I tried to install new packages.  Confusion from there on ... This
latest flub reported here is from an attempt to update the system while
in the live (ubiquity?) program.
