Received the following during 10.10 -> 11.04 dist-upgrade:

The upgrade has aborted. Your system could be in an unusable state. A recovery will run now (dpkg --configure -a). Please report this bug against the 'update-manager' package and include the files in /var/log/dist-upgrade/ in the bug report.
E:Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

Title:
  Upgrading 10.4 to 10.10, got "Could not install the upgrades" at the
  end of the install step

Status in “update-manager” package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: update-manager

  I've already filed a bug about a failure to install portmap (Bug
  #692089). At the end of the installation step, I got the message in
  the Summary line, plus, The upgrade has aborted . . . will run dpkg
  --confgure -a  . . .  E:Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error
  code (1).

  This looks like it might be a derivative bug to me, caused by the
  failure to install portmap.

  See the previous bug report for the rest of the information you ask
  for (lsb_release-rdh etc).
