Title:
package man-db 2.5.7-2 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed
post-installation script returned error exit status 1

Status in “man-db” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: grub2

  E: /var/cache/apt/archives/linux-
  image-2.6.32-24-generic_2.6.32-24.43_i386.deb: subprocess new pre-
installation script returned error exit status 1

  Errors encountered
  man-db
  grub-pc

ubuntu desktop installed on second hard drive with win xp on first.
Still trying to figure out where grub is sitting.

This is digging a hole stuff.

Various packages failed either to install or uninstall. Something is really ragging processor usage.
Led to believe tis script might be a solution.

purge old and reinstall new to sda
  sudo apt-get purge grub grub-pc grub-common
  sudo mv /boot/grub /boot/grub_backup
  sudo mkdir /boot/grub
  sudo apt-get install grub-pc grub-common

  sudo grub-install --recheck /dev/sda
  sudo update-grub

At which point (sudo apt-get install grub-pc grub-common) got stuck up the barrel.
Where it has been for a week now sitting on any chance of an up date.

despiration time suggested a clean up might shake the road block.

  sudo killall synaptic
  sudo killall aptitude
  sudo killall mintinstall
  sudo killall software-center
  sudo rm /var/lib/dpkg/lock
  sudo rm /var/cache/apt/archives/lock
  sudo rm /var/lib/apt/lists/partial/* |
  sudo rm /var/cache/apt/*.bin
  sudo dpkg --purge $(dpkg -l |grep ^rc |awk '{print $2}' | tr '\012' ' ')
  sudo apt-get -f install
  sudo apt-get clean
  sudo apt-get autoclean

things not looking too good just now so I may end up doing a clean re-
  intall.
