  software center crashes when installing .deb files

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: software-center

  Download .deb file, save to disk. Right click, choose "Open" Software
  center opens, recognizes .deb file. Click on install. Either nothing
  happens or the application crashes.

  the .deb file can be installed using the command line without problem.
