Well it seems to be fine now. Had the machine running for 2 hours with the dialog box open. No more seemed to open up behind it. Closing report. Thanks for reporting though, and please feel free to do so again with any other bugs you may find.

Title:
Multiple instances of "Ubuntu XX.YY Upgrade Available" (check-new-
release-gtk) dialog
Status in “update-manager” package in Ubuntu:
Invalid
Bug description:
Binary package hint: update-manager
This concerns update-manager 1:0.142.23 in Ubuntu Maverick.
An "Ubuntu 11.04 Upgrade Available" dialog window pops up. If I'm not
around to click it away, then about a half hour later, another one
pops up. Some time later, another window.
I come back the next day, and see more than a dozen such windows
littering my desktop.
This may have to do with bug #784130, which appears to prevent the
"Don't Upgrade" option from sticking.
