Title:
Have to select Operating System twice during boot

Status in “grub” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
Hardware: MacBook with a partitioned harddrive
On one partition I have MacOS
On the other I have Ubuntu 11.10

When I power up my MacBook it boots into MacOS as normal
If I want to boot into Ubuntu I hold down "alt" when booting and I can use the native MacOS firmware menu bootloader
This works, then a few seconds later I get the GRUB bootloader asking me which OS I wish to boot
I have already selected my preferred OS and I cannot prevent the GRUB bootloader from showing

  Steps to reproduce:
Boot a macbook with partitions setup manually, with Ubuntu AND MacOS
  Boot into Ubuntu
Turn off grub menu by hacking /etc/default/grub

  Expected Result:
As config has changed the grub bootloader does not show

  Actual Result:
  GRUB still shows
