Using autoremove probably removed your xorg packages needed for a GUI.  When the screen is blank press 'Ctrl + Alt + F1' and see if that brings you to a command line.  You need to reinstall 'libgl1-mesa-glx' which will bring xorg dependencies with it.

Status in “update-manager” package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
  As soon as I restarted my computer after upgrading from Ubuntu 11.04
  to 11.10, the error icon appeared on the top panel bar.

  If I try to run the update manager, I also get the following similar
  error.

  Could not calculate the upgrade

  An unresolvable problem occurred while calculating the upgrade.

  Please report this bug against the 'update-manager' package and include the following error message:
  'E:Error, pkgProblemResolver::Resolve generated breaks, this may be caused by held packages.'
