Title:
Installation aborts because apt can`t read USB drive

Status in “ubiquity” package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
I tried to install from my USB drive, since I`m out of CDs. First
attempt was straight from the boot menu (Install option) and the
second from the GUI, after booting from USB.

The computer is a HP Pavilion dv5, dual booting Windows 7 and Ubuntu.
This machine was running Ubuntu 11.04 fine with two admin accounts.
Upgrade went fine, but one account had a defective GUI (missing icons
and options), so I decided to delete the partition and do a fresh
  install from scratch.
