Bug description:
  This is Xubuntu 12.04-testing.

  I was surprised to see this come up on apport as I had just booted in
  through recovery where I ran "dpkg --configure -a" which claimed to
  have fixed this problem.

  I reran the command and just got a new prompt.

  It could be that hitting Ctrl+D to get me to a user prompt and logging
  in there and running "startx" may be  the reason for this apport
  report.  A "reboot" command at the root prompt may have been a better
  idea.

  I have another install claiming the same problem and I will do the
  same thing there using a reboot to see what happens and will append
  this at that time.
