Title:
Boot loader isn't installed properly (Kubuntu 11.10)

Status in “grub2” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  System used for testing:
  Lenovo ThinkPad E320
Has built-in ATA disk with Windows 7 installation and an empty partition.

I downloaded kubuntu-11.10-amd64 and installed it from USB.
After the install, which finished without errors, booting from the hard-drive goes directly into Windows, not GRUB menu.

An attempt to install Debian on same computer failed with the error
"can't install boot loader" but I think Debian tries to install Grub
(as opposed to Grub2 used in Ubuntu).
